Full Time Position – Service Coordinator (Nominated Supervisor & Educational Leader)
Permanent – 38 hours per week
Location – 3 services at Caves Beach (Dual service) and Swansea (separate services)
Salary – Ranging between $74,563 and $81,896 per annum (dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications)

Swansea Community Cottage Inc is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic leader for our OOSH and Vacation Care services at Caves Beach and Swansea. Someone who has a genuine love of working in the childcare sector, is flexible, happy and a great team player.

This is a newly created senior role due to the retirement of our long term Nominated Supervisor and internal structural changes due to promotion.

Our Services (Caves Beach OOSH & Vacation Care, Swansea OOSH and Swansea Vacation Care) are operated by The Cottage, a not-for-profit, community based organisation with Meeting Quality Ratings.

We are seeking applicants with extensive experience in the sector, who understand the value of child-centred, evidence based, quality education and care for our community. 

This role will have the support and mentorship of our longstanding project manager.  The Service Coordinator will be the Nominated Supervisor for the 3 services and the Educational Leader to ensure continuity of care between centres. 

The Service Coordinator will oversee the quality of the services, ensuring compliance with all Laws, Regulations and Standards. 

They will work closely with centre staff, coordinating and supporting them with input into their Quality Improvement Plans.

They will be lead contact during Assessment and Rating Process with knowledge and experience in the A&R process.  Further training will be offered in this area if required.

The Service Coordinator will be responsible for the induction of Responsible Persons and Educators along with mentoring and working to support the RPs and Educators with day to day operations in a professional and cohesive team environment.

The role requires the development and maintenance of strong relationships with families, feeder schools and wider community

  • Administrative time – This role recognises the workloads placed on leadership. The Coordinator will have 4 hours off-the-floor time for child led programming in consultation with staff and children and remaining targeted for administration.

Required Skills:

  • Proven ability to form positive and engaging relationships with children from 5 -12 years.

  • Leadership skills to set and manage expectations for service staff across all aspects of service delivery. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills – confidence, maturity and sensitivity in responding to the needs of parents, children, staff and other community members. 

  • Ability to effectively lead a behaviour guidance strategy for all children 

  • Ability to make program delivery decisions according to evidence-based pedagogy, service philosophy and community expectations. 

  • Ability to roster roles, responsibilities and organise the maintenance and sustainability of centres in consultation with Asset Management and management.

  • Understanding of basic business administrative tasks and use of childcare management software (experience with Kidsoft or Xplor favourable).

Selection Criteria Must Be Addressed In Application

Essential Qualifications:

  • Cleared WWCC for paid work

  • Police Check (or willingness to obtain)

  • Child Protection Qualification (CHCPRT001 Certificate or equivalent) 

  • Current Full First Aid Certificate specific for an Education and Care setting e.g. HLTAID012

  • Diploma in School Age Education and Care (preferred) OR other relevant qualification 

  • Drivers Licence

 Essential Criteria: 

  • Management and leadership experience in the OOSH/Early Childhood services environment

  • Clear understanding of child wellbeing and current knowledge of child protection legislation.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of school aged children’s development and needs.

  • Current and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the NQF, NQS and National Regulations. 

  • Is confident in responding to, and supporting a team to manage, First Aid in an Education and Care setting.

  • Understanding of Risk Management and ability to conduct Risk Assessments and comply with Work Health & Safety guidelines. 

  • Knowledge of Self-Assessment and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) processes and documentation.

  • Understanding of the OOSH Programming Cycle and MTOP

  • Strong understanding of Inclusion, and experience supporting, children with additional needs. 

  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and amending policies and procedures

It services Caves Beach & Nords Wharf Public Schools and St Patricks Swansea for the OOSH Service.

Children from all areas are eligible and welcome to the Vacation Care Service.

(Out of School Hours) 

Two centres operate for Out of School Hours Care for local school children.

Hours of Operation

Before School       7am until 9.30am

After School          2.30pm - 6pm

Our service provides care for school age children between the ages of 41/2 (enrolled in school) to 12 year olds. 

Children can start at the centre immediately upon enrolment.

Priority is given to parents working or studying although all school age children are welcome to attend.

Swansea "Channel House" OOSH on the grounds of Swansea Public School, Rawson Street, Swansea.

This OOSH services Swansea, Pelican Flats, Marks Point and Blacksmiths Public Schools.
Mini-bus collection and drop off services are also available for the morning and afternoon sessions to Pelican Flats, Marks Point and Blacksmiths.

Caves Beach "Green Shed" OOSH on the grounds of Swansea High School, Park Avenue, Caves Beach.

This OOSH services Caves Beach, St Patrick's and Nords Wharf Schools. Mini-bus collection and drop off services are also available for the morning and afternoon sessions to St Patrick's and Nords Wharf.
